    Free The Children was born when a group of young people stood up to take action and speak out against child labour.

    In the beginning, adults would throw out labels like “too young,” “too naïve,” “too idealistic.” But we would pick-up these labels and wear them with pride. We are idealistic. In fact, we’re shamelessly idealistic. And we’re going to work to ensure that a better world is possible!

    Free The Children’s first goal was to build a school in a developing community overseas. We heard, “Wait until you’re older. Children should go to school, not build schools.” But, we were young, naïve and idealistic. We started raising money. We started raising awareness. And, soon the walls of our first school went up.

    With one complete, we wanted to build five. Again, they had little faith. They called us naïve, they called us idealistic. “Don’t dream too big for your age,” they said. But again we picked up those labels and we stood up. We spoke out. We kept dreaming big.

    It doesn’t matter if they say we’re dreamers. It doesn’t matter if they say we’re idealistic. It doesn’t matter if they say it’s impossible.

    Because yes, we are idealists. In fact, we’re shameless idealists.

    Now, Free The Children is a movement of more than one million youth worldwide—a movement of shamelessly idealistic youth who will stop at nothing to make the world a better place.
